• No Learning Procedure: This is one of the most desirable features of this intelligent control board. Once everything is wired in you can just run your gate opener. All other openers have to go through a learning procedure to know how long to run for and other details. No hassles here.

• Easy Access Adjustable Magnetic Limit Switches: There are many pluses to the limit switches on this unit. They are easy to adjust and access. They are on the bottom of the exterior of the arm, simply slide them to the location needed and tighten down a screw. Secondly, both the open and closed point is adjustable; this gives you more flexibility of stopping points after the brackets are bolted into place. Lastly they are magnetic so there are no components to wear out or break from contact.

• Adjustable Run Time/Soft Stop: One of the parameters you can designate for this opener is a run time. The advantage of this is, again, it is not a learned procedure, but something you input manually as an adjustment for your soft stop. The purpose is to give an option for where you want soft stop to begin. If you make the run time the same as the actual run time from limit to limit it will slow down half way; as you extend the run time past that time the soft stop will become shorter and give you a faster opening time. The board makes it easy to set, it has a counter on it telling you how many seconds it takes to go from open to close - then you simply put that number or a number of your choosing to delay the slow down.

"The Estate Swing Solar series gate opener is a great combination of the simplistic board of the Estate Swing Classic which has been so popular and the solar maintenance methods of the top solar gate openers. There have been many attempts at dual purpose gate openers, meaning low voltage trickle charge and solar combined into one gate opener unit. However we have found the gate openers that work best are the ones that are built for solar and the battery is transformer charged separate from the system if desired. I will explain:

The way the best solar gate openers work, including the Estate Swing Solar series, is that the gate opener board and motor run off of a battery only. All the charging is done directly to the battery. This is good because you can increase the size of your battery, you can increase the size of your solar panel, you can increase the size of the charge controller for faster charging or higher wattage solar panels; all leading to a more reliable gate opener system tailor made to your circumstances. Other gate opener systems have the solar panel feed the power it produces into the gate opener control board and the control board has a charge control built into it. The problem having the charge control built into the gate opener control board is it is a performance limiting factor. In order to increase battery size or solar panel size / wattage you have to match the right charge controller. If the charge controller that is built into the gate opener control board cannot handle the desired charging the system will not be capable of keeping up with your needs. For lesser used gate opener systems or systems in optimal sunlight this is ok, but if you have other plans like many access control devices, less than optimal solar conditions, etc. having the flexibility of external charging is a huge plus.

The other advantage of not running charging power through the gate opener control board is lightening protection. Having the low voltage lines from a transformer or solar panel leading directly to a battery instead of the gate opener control board creates a buffer that helps to protect against minor surges. We still recommend using lightning protection but if you choose not to, which we have seen many times over the years, your chances of having a surge mishap is decreased through this type of gate operator charging system.

Having a system that is this DIY ready as well as solar ready has been something we have been after for a while. The DIY aspect of this gate opener is the other component that I truly value. It has adjustable brackets making the mounting easy (we have a video showing how to do this by the way). There is no programming, just a few parameters to set. Other gate openers have sequences to follow to get the gate opener to "learn" how to operate for your particular gate. The main problem with having programming is no matter how easy you make the procedure there is still a procedure and you are not familiar with it. This is a carryover from the times when all gate openers were installed by professionals. Professionals learn the procedure after a few times and it is no big deal; but why would a DIYer want to learn something they are never going to use again.
