The Gate Crafters In-Line Modular Lightning and Surge Protector is easy to wire and easy to maintain. Installation is extremely simple by design, the surge suppressor is simply being installed into a line entering the device you are protecting:

    • Find a location in the gate opener control box or in a weather proof box mounted near the gate opener and mount a din rail.
    • Purchase a surge suppressor for every pair of wires you wish to protect. If you have multiple devices located in the same terminals on the control board those multiple devices can be considered a single pair to protect and be protected by one surge suppressor.
    • Take the wires from the 2 terminals of the control board that you are protecting and connect them to the + and - terminals of the surge suppressor.
    • In those same terminals on the surge suppressor connect a 3 foot long (minimum) or longer wire to the surge suppressor terminals on the control board where the wires being protected previously were located.
    • Drive a grounding rod into the ground next to the surge suppressor (available at home improvement stores) and connect a ground wire from PE to a grounding rod using a grounding nut.
In addition to the easy to understand and apply installation, maintenance is a breeze as well. There are two fuses on the surge suppressor with color indicators for good or tripped. If a fuse is tripped, simply purchase a replacement fuse, pull the old one off and push in the new one. No need for rewiring, un-installation or anything else that is required with most other surge suppressors. The indicator windows on the modular fuses take the guess work and continuity testing out of knowing whether or not the surge protector has been tripped.

To properly protect your control board/device, you must have at least 3 feet of wire between the surge protector and control board/device. This surge protector can protect:

    • Any pair of terminals that have 30V or less running through them. This would include incoming power to low voltage gate openers and all accessories.
If you have a gate opener and one or more accessories connect to the same terminal and that don't have power run from the opener or the power leads are connected to the battery of the opener - you only need one of these.

If you have a gate opener and accessories that are powered from the control board you will need two of these. Or if you have two accessories that lead to two different terminals you will also need two of these.
