Building a wood or vinyl sliding gate on your own is no simple task. Kits from major hardware stores are virtually non-existent. And even if you manage to find the materials, you’ll likely end up with a V-groove rolling gate, an option poorly suited for automation due to the ground resistance created by the wheels.
Gate Crafters offers custom sliding gate frames featuring our safe, automation-friendly cantilever design. Unlike traditional systems, our cantilever slide gate frame has no wheels on the ground. The gate is suspended by trolleys mounted on two steel posts (included), allowing it to glide smoothly and effortlessly, far too fluid an action to be called “sliding.”
The gate is kept aligned by top-mounted roller guides, ensuring smooth motion and enhanced safety. With no ground wheels to pose tripping or pinching hazards, and a trolley channel designed to prevent finger injuries, our cantilever system is both safer and more efficient than traditional sliding gate setups.

Automation
Automate your sliding gate frame after installation - our frames are designed to be automation-friendly. The Estate Swing E-SL 450 and E-SL 1800 are excellent options for installations with power nearby. If solar power is required, Apollo/NICE offers some of the most solar-compatible gate openers on the market.
Non-Automated Gate Hardware
If you’re not planning to automate your gate immediately, or at all, we offer several useful accessories. These include inside/outside key-locked handle latches, key-locked drop rods, and alternate self-closing hinges that allow the gate to stay open past 90 degrees. Once nudged toward the closed position, the hinges will automatically close the gate.
For those considering future automation, the electric pedestrian gate lock kit is a great option. It can be set up to release the lock via keypad, intercom, push button, or other access device. Once released, the gate can be pushed open. The best part: all components of the pedestrian gate lock kit are compatible with gate openers, making future upgrades seamless.

Use this gate kit by attaching vinyl or wood slats (slats not included) to the 2" x 2" aluminum frame and the aluminum intermediate frame stiffener. The frame attaches on one side, allowing compatibility with a wide variety of vinyl or wood slat sizes and styles. Ball bearing hinges are included to make attaching the gate to a post (post not included; posts with pre-welded hinges are available for purchase) quick and easy.
Every gate is shipped with a can of self-etching primer as a base coat for the frame, allowing it to be painted in any color you choose. Gate Crafters uses Marhide self-etching primer by Bondo, a leading name in bare aluminum primers. This type of primer is essential for aluminum surfaces—it seals stains, resists moisture, and provides a strong foundation for the topcoat to adhere to. It is crucial to prime new or bare metal and aluminum before painting.
If you prefer powder coating, you can choose from black, white, or yellow prior to shipping, available for an additional cost.
